Why So Many SSD Applications Are Denied (and How to Avoid It)

Did you know that most Social Security Disability (SSD) applications are denied the first time?

The reason isn’t always the medical condition—it’s usually mistakes in the paperwork.

Here’s how to avoid the most common pitfalls:

  • Missing or incomplete medical records
  • Vague descriptions of daily limitations
  • Inconsistent dates or gaps in treatment
  • Late responses to Social Security requests

The good news? With the right preparation and support, you can avoid these setbacks and improve your chances of success.

If you’re applying—or appealing—a denial, working with a California disability advocate ensures every detail is covered from start to finish.

Do you know someone who can no longer work?

You may know a friend, family member, or neighbor who is struggling. They can no longer work due to a medical or mental health condition, and the future feels uncertain. The process of applying for Social Security Disability (SSDI or SSI) is confusing, overwhelming, and time-consuming—and it's getting even more complex with rule changes expected in 2026.

Often, the people who need the most help don't know where to turn.

At California Disability Advocates (CDA Offices), our mission is to be that helping hand. For over 30 years, we have guided individuals through the disability process from start to finish, lifting the burden so they can focus on their health.

If you know someone who needs support, please share this information with them. We promise to provide them with:

  • A free, confidential consultation and personalized case review.

  • Representation by experienced disability advocates who work directly with the Social Security Administration.

  • Peace of mind with our "no upfront fees" guarantee. We only get paid if we win their case.

Whether they are applying for the first time, have been unfairly denied, or simply need to understand their options, our team is here to help.

From Our Blog: A Common Question We Hear

Common Social Security Disability Denial Questions We Get

"My doctor says I am disabled, I even submitted a letter from my doctor that I am disabled, so why is it that the Social Security Administration keeps denying my Social Security Disability claim?"

This is one of the most common and frustrating situations for applicants. The answer is more complex than you might think.

Read our blog to understand why this happens and what can be done.
